Founder intro
I grew up moving between different parts of China before later building a life in the United States. Over time, I found myself seeing China from two perspectives at once — as someone with deep personal roots there, and as a traveler trying to understand it again with fresh eyes.
From the streets of Wuhan and Chongqing to the mountains of Yunnan, Guizhou, and western Sichuan, travel has become my way of reconnecting with places, people, food, history, and nature.
This project is my way of helping independent travelers understand China more clearly — not just the famous cities, but the everyday details, hidden places, and practical realities that make a trip feel smoother, deeper, and more real.
China is one of the most exciting places in the world to travel — but for many first-time visitors, it can also feel confusing.
China Beyond Maps helps you prepare for the practical side of travel while also discovering the places and experiences that match your own travel style.
